The cast of The Greatest of All Time (GOAT) features Vijay in dual roles as Gandhi and Jeevan, with Akhil portraying the childhood version of Jeevan. The film also stars Prashanth, Prabhu Deva, Ajmal Ameer, Mohan, Jayaram, Sneha as Gandhi's wife and Jeevan's mother, Laila as a doctor, and Meenakshi Chaudhary as Srinidhi, Jeevan's love interest, with her voice dubbed by M. M. Manasi. Vaibhav plays Jeevan's friend, while Premgi Amaren takes on the role of Gandhi's brother-in-law and Jeevan's uncle. The Greatest of All Time (GOAT) is directed by Venkat Prabhu, who also wrote the screenplay along with Ezhilarasu Gunasekaran and K. Chandru, with dialogues by Venkat Prabhu and Viji. The story is also penned by Venkat Prabhu. Produced by Kalpathi S. Aghoram, Kalpathi S. Ganesh, and Kalpathi S. Suresh under the banner of AGS Entertainment, the film features cinematography by Siddhartha Nuni, editing by Venkat Raajen, and music composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja.

முதல் பார்வை: 83 - ஒரு 'விளையாட்டான' பொழுதுபோக்கு சினிமா!

1983-ஆம் ஆண்டு இங்கிலாந்தின் லார்ட்ஸ் மைதானத்தில் மேற்கிந்திய அணிகளுக்கு எதிராக இந்தியா பெற்ற வரலாற்று சிறப்புமிக்க வெற்றியை அடிப்படையாகக் கொண்டு வெளியாகியுள்ளது ‘83’. சினிமா ரசிகர்கள் மட்டுமின்றி, கிரிக்கெட் பிரியர்களும் மிகவும் எதிர்பார்த்த இப்படம் நிறைவாக இருந்ததா? - இதோ முதல் பார்வை...

கபில் தேவ் (ரன்வீர் சிங்) தலைமையிலான இந்திய அணி உலகக் கோப்பை கிரிக்கெட் தொடருக்காக இங்கிலாந்து பயணிக்கிறது. ஆரம்பம் முதலே உள்ளூர்க்காரர்கள் முதல் வெளிநாட்டு பத்திரிகையாளர்கள் வரை இந்திய அணியின் மீது அவநம்பிக்கையை வெளிப்படுத்தி வருகின்றனர். அரை இறுதி ஆட்டத்துக்கு முன்பாகவே ரிட்டர்ன் டிக்கெட் கூட போட்டு விடுகின்றனர். மைதானத்திலேயே இந்தியாவைச் சேர்ந்து கிரிக்கெட் ரசிகர்கள் கபில் தேவின் காதுபடவே கேவலமாக பேசுகின்றனர். அந்தளவுக்கு இந்திய அணி என்றாலே அனைவரும் இளக்காரமாக பார்க்கின்றனர். எனினும் கேப்டன் கபில் தேவ் தன் அணியின் மீது நம்பிக்கை இழக்காமல் இருக்கிறார்.

அனைத்து அவநம்பிக்கைகளையும் பொய்யாக்கும் வகையில் முதல் இரண்டு மேட்ச்களில் வெற்றிபெற்று அனைவரையும் ஆச்சர்யத்தில் ஆழ்த்துகிறது இந்திய அணி. தொடர்ந்து ஒவ்வொரு ஆட்டமாக முன்னேறி இறுதி ஆட்டத்தில் வென்று உலகக் கோப்பையை இந்திய அணி எப்படி வென்றது என்பதே ‘83’ படத்தின் கதை.

அனைவருக்கும் தெரிந்த கதையை படமாக்குவது என்பதே ஒரு சவால். அதிலும் நாடே பெருமை கொண்ட ஒரு தருணத்தை படமாக்குவது என்பது கூடுதல் சவால். இந்த சவாலை இந்திய ரசிகர்களுக்கு ஏற்ற வகையில் திரைப்படமாக கொடுத்ததில் இயக்குநர் கபிர் கான் ஓரளவு வெற்றியும் பெறுகிறார்.

படத்தில் பாராட்டுவதற்கான விஷயங்கள் அநேகம் உண்டு. முதலில் ரன்வீர் சிங். படத்தில் எந்தக் காட்சியிலும் திரையில் இருப்பவர் ரன்வீர் என்ற உணர்வே பார்வையாளர்களுக்கு எழாமல் கபில் தேவாகவே வாழ்ந்திருக்கிறார். நடை, உடை, பேச்சு, உடல்மொழி என அனைத்தையும் கபில் தேவிடமிருந்து அப்படியே நகலெடுத்து நடித்திருக்கிறார். அடுத்து படத்தின் ஒளிப்பதிவு. ஒரு ஸ்போர்ட்ஸ் டிராமாவுக்கான கச்சிதமான ஒளிப்பதிவை அசீம் மிஸ்ராவின் கேமரா அற்புதமாக படமாக்கியுள்ளது. ஒரு கிரிக்கெட் போட்டியை பார்க்கும் பார்வையாளனின் உணர்வை படத்தை பார்த்துக் கொண்டிருக்கும் ரசிகனுக்கு கடத்துவது எளிதல்ல. உதாரணம் மேற்கிந்திய அணியின் பவுலிங் காட்சிகள்.

படத்தில் பாராட்டப்படுவதற்கான விஷயங்கள் இருக்கும் அதே அளவுக்கு குறைகளும் உண்டு. முக்கியமாக படம் முழுக்க பயணிக்கும் சினிமாத்தனம். ஒரு பயோபிக்கையோ அல்லது ஒரு பிரபலமான தருணத்தை பதிவு செய்யும்போது இருக்கவேண்டிய குறைந்தபட்ச இயல்புத்தன்மை கூட பல காட்சிகளில் இல்லை. ஆங்காங்கே காமெடி என்கிற பெயரில் அவர்களே ஜோக் சொல்லி சிரித்துக் கொள்கிறார்கள். ஜீவா தொடர்பான நகைச்சுவைக் காட்சிகள் மட்டுமே விதிவிலக்கு. பார்வையாளர்களை வலிந்து எமோஷனலாக்க முயற்சிக்கும் வசனங்கள் பல இடங்களில் பயன்படுத்தப்பட்டுள்ளன. ஒரு ஸ்போர்ட்ஸ் டிராமா எனும்போது காட்சி வழியே பார்ப்பவர்களை உணர்வுப்பூர்வமாக அணுக வேண்டுமே தவிர வசனங்களை இட்டு நிரப்பக் கூடாது. ‘டங்கல்’, ‘சக் தே இந்தியா’, ‘சார்பட்டா பரம்பரை’ படங்களை இதற்கு உதாரணமாக சொல்லலாம்.

ரன்வீர் தவிர்த்து படத்தில் பாராட்டப்பட வேண்டியவர்கள் மான் சிங்காக வரும் பங்கஜ் திரிபாதியும், கிருஷ்ணமாச்சாரி ஸ்ரீகாந்த்தாக நடித்துள்ள ஜீவாவும். இருவருமே தாங்கள் வரும் அனைத்து காட்சிகளிலும் அலட்சியமாக ஸ்கோர் செய்து மற்றவர்களை ஓரங்கட்டி விடுகிறார்கள். தீபிகா படுகோனே அழகாக இருக்கிறார். நடிக்க பெரிதாக எந்த காட்சியும் இல்லை. இசை, எடிட்டிங் என டெக்னிக்கல் அம்சங்கள் அனைத்தும் படத்தை தூக்கி நிறுத்த கைகொடுத்துள்ளன.

ஸ்போர்ட்ஸ் படங்களில் இறுதியில் கதாபாத்திரங்கள் பெறும் வெற்றி பார்வையாளனுக்கும் பாதிப்பையும் ஏற்படுத்த வேண்டும். அந்த வெற்றியை நம் வெற்றியாக நினைக்க வைக்க வேண்டும். அப்படி எந்தவொரு உணர்வையும் படம் ஏற்படுத்தவில்லை. 1983 கிரிக்கெட் தொடர்பாக வாய்வழியாக கேட்ட விஷயங்களை அப்படியே காட்சிப்படுத்தியிருப்பதும் பெரிதாக எடுபடவில்லை.

கிரிக்கெட்டை வைத்து மதக்கலவரத்தை கட்டுப்படுத்துவது, இளவயது சச்சின், உண்மையான கபில் தேவ் கேமியோ என பல சுவாரஸ்யமான காட்சிகள் மூலம் படத்தை போரடிக்காமல் கொண்டு சென்றுள்ளார் இயக்குநர்.

இது மோசமான படமா என்றால் நிச்சயமாக இல்லை. ஒரு ஸ்போர்ட்ஸ் படத்தில் பார்வையாளனுக்கு இருக்கவேண்டிய எமோஷனல் தொடர்பு இல்லை என்பதைத் தாண்டி போரடிக்காத ஒரு பொழுதுபோக்கு சினிமா இந்த ‘83’.

Ranveer Singh's long awaited and highly anticipated sports drama, 83 has been watched. The film, which is based on the real life incidents of the journey of the Indian Cricket Team in the 1983 World Cup, is directed by Kabir Khan. Jiiva, Deepika Padukone, Pankaj Tripathi, and several others play supporting roles in this film.    STORY:  As already known, 83 is a story about the real-life Indian Cricket Team that had to undergo a highly challenging journey to emerge as the Champions of the 1983 World Cup. When everyone wrote off the team and considered them to be the weak link, under Kapil Dev's (Ranveer Singh) leadership, the Indian Team defeated every single odds that came their way to become the World Cup Winners. The film showcases this exciting journey of the team in a gripping fashion.  

SCREENPLAY, DIALOGUES & DIRECTION:  83 begins steadily and the first half moves at a good pace with enough scenes to hold your attention. The second half is highly charged with emotional and heart touching scenes that take you back to 1983 times. Despite us knowing the historical incident and what the final result is going to be, the film makes us cheer for its characters and the team and that is where 83 triumphs. 83 is a euphoria that needs to be experienced only on the big screen and director Kabir Khan packs the film with a punch. 83 is also one of those rarest films where predictability doesn't come into play since emotions weigh heavier than predictability.

The scenes make you emotional, happy, cheerful, proud, and whatnot! Director Kabir Khan's conviction with which he has shot and packaged the film needs to be applauded. His team has done their level best to recreate the magical moments of the 83 World Cup. The emotional dots are neatly connected which makes us stay close to the characters in the film. The film is exceptional in all aspects, especially the screenplay and direction that stand out. The screenplay has got a great momentum where you have a high point in regular intervals. The scene that showcases Kapil Dev's world record earns the applause instantly and the film has several more such scenes. Kabir never allows the film to face a dip, in terms of pace and engagement.

83 is nothing short of a visual treat, especially for the cricket lovers. Pointing out a negative in this film would be a tough choice in this film. 83 is also a film that respects the game of cricket with dignity and if you are a fan of the game, you cannot miss this one! 

CAST:  It is not an easy task to portray a legendary personality in a film, but, Ranveer Singh has taken up that challenge and has lived the role of Kapil Dev. Ranveer goes all guns blazing with his performance that is both emotional and intense. There's a certain level of subtlety that Kapil Dev possessed and Ranveer manages to bring that on screen. Ranveer is definitely the show stealer of 83 and he has surely delivered one of his career best performances.

Jiiva is the next person after Ranveer Singh who gets more prominence and the talented actor delivers a delightful performance. As Cheeka (Krishnamachari Srikkanth), Jiiva aces the role with perfection and helps in comic reliefs at regular intervals. His enjoyable performance is sure to strike a connection with the audience. Pankaj Tripathi as PR Man Singh acts as a solid support system, delivering what is expected of him. Deepika Padukone in a short and sweet role is impressive. Tahir Raj Bhasin, Saqib Saleem, Jatin Sarma, Chirag Patil and others play their respective parts effectively. The casting has been top-notch in terms of the selection of the actors to play the cricketers and due credits to Mukesh Chhabra and the team for the same.

TECHNICAL:  Pritam's songs are quite good and passable, while Julius Packiam's background score adds to the adrenaline rush and excitement of the audience. Aseem Mishra's cinematography is splendid as he has indeed recreated the highlight moments of the 1983 World Cup with believability. Additional brownie points to the makeup department without whom the film wouldn't have looked this real. The makeover for each actor to look like the real-life cricketer is remarkable. 

SO?  With incredible performances and fantastic packaging, 83 is a blockbuster winner! 

Verdict 83 is a euphoria that makes you emotional, happy, ecstatic, and proud! A Glorious Win!

இயக்கம் - கபீர்கான் இசை - ஜுலியஸ் பாக்கியம், ப்ரீத்தம் நடிப்பு - ரன்வீர் சிங், தீபிகா படுகோனே, ஜீவா வெளியான தேதி - 24 டிசம்பர் 2021 நேரம் - 2 மணி நேரம் 41 நிமிடம் ரேட்டிங் - 4/5 இந்தியத் திரையுலக வரலாற்றில் இதற்கு முன்பு இப்படி ஒரு உண்மை நிகழ்வு படமாக்கப்பட்டதில்லை என்று தான் சொல்ல வேண்டும். 1983ம் ஆண்டு கபில் தேவ் தலைமையிலான இந்திய கிரிக்கெட் அணி முதல் முறையாக ஒரு நாள் உலகக் கோப்பையைக் கைப்பற்றியதை அப்படியே நம் கண்முன் கொண்டு வந்து நிறுத்தியிருக்கிறார்கள். அப்போது சிறுவர்களாக, இளைஞர்களாக இருந்தவர்கள் மீண்டும் அந்தக் கால ஞாபகத்தை அசை போட்டு பார்க்கலாம். அப்போது பிறக்காதவர்கள், அந்த வரலாற்று நிகழ்வு எப்படி நடந்தது என்பதை பார்த்துத் தெரிந்து கொள்ளலாம். ஒரு உலகக் கோப்பை கிரிக்கெட் ஆட்டங்களை நம் கண்முன் அப்படியே கொண்டு வருவது சாதாரண விஷயமல்ல. அப்போது கலந்து கொண்ட கிரிக்கெட் அணிகள், இந்திய கிரிக்கெட் வீரர்கள், அப்போது மைதானத்தில் பார்த்த ரசிகர்கள், அந்தக் காலகட்டம் என அனைத்தையும் அப்படியே யதார்த்தமாய் பதிவு செய்திருக்கிறார் இயக்குனர் கபீர் கான்.

இந்திய கிரிக்கெட் அணிக்கு முதல் முறையாக உலகக் கோப்பையை பெற்றுத் தந்த கபில்தேவ் தான் இந்தப் படத்தின் மையக் கதாபாத்திரம். அந்தக் கதாபாத்திரத்தில் ரன்வீர் சிங், அப்படியே கபில்தேவாகவே மாறிவிட்டாரோ என்று ஆச்சரியப்படும் அளவிற்கு நடித்திருக்கிறார். கபில்தேவுக்கு அவ்வளவாக ஆங்கிலம் பேச வராது. மேல் உதட்டைக் கடித்துக் கொண்டது போல பேசுவார். அவருடைய ஹேர்ஸ்டைல், மீசை எல்லாம் அந்தக் காலத்தில் அவ்வளவு பிரபலம். அவருடைய பவுலிங் ஆக்ஷன் அசத்தலாய் இருக்கும். இந்திய கிரிக்கெட் அணியில் முதன் முதலாக சாதனை புரிந்த வேகப்பந்து வீச்சாளர். அப்படிப்பட்ட சாதனையாளர் கதாபாத்திரத்தில் ஒரு காட்சியில் கூட ரன்வீர் சிங் என்ற நடிகர் தெரியவேயில்லை, கபில்தேவ் மட்டுமே தெரிந்தார். கபில்தேவ் மனைவி ரோமியாக இடைவேளைக்குப் பின்னர் தான் தீபிகா படுகோனே வருகிறார். கொஞ்சமாக வந்தாலும் கபில்தேவுக்கு ஊக்கமளிக்கும் வார்த்தைகளைச் சொல்லி உலகக் கோப்பை வெல்லக் காரணமாக இருக்கிறார். அணி மேலாளர் மான்சிங் கதாபாத்திரத்தில் பங்கஜ் த்ரிபாதி. இன்று பல்லாயிரம் கோடிகளுக்கு சொந்தமாக இருக்கும் இந்திய கிரிக்கெட் போர்டு, அந்தக் காலத்தில் இந்திய கிரிக்கெட் அணி வீரர்களுக்கு எவ்வளவு கஷ்டங்களைக் கொடுத்துள்ளது என்பதை இவரது கதாபாத்திரம் உணர்த்துகிறது. உலகக் கோப்பை அணியில் இடம் பெற்ற கிரிக்கெட் வீரர்களில் தமிழக வீரர் ஸ்ரீகாந்த்திற்கு இப்படத்தில் கூடுதல் முக்கியத்துவம் கொடுத்திருக்கிறார்கள். ஸ்ரீகாந்த் கதாபாத்திரத்தில் தமிழ் நடிகர் ஜீவா பொருத்தமாக நடித்திருக்கிறார். அவருக்குப் பிறகு கவாஸ்கர், பல்வீந்தர் சிங் சாந்து ஆகியோர் இடம் பெறுகிறார்கள். மற்ற வீரர்களுக்கு கிரிக்கெட் மைதானங்களில் மட்டுமே முக்கியத்துவம் கொடுக்கப்பட்டிருக்கிறது. யஷ்பால் சர்மா, ரோஜர் பின்னி, மதன்லால், சந்தீப் பாட்டில், மொகிந்தர் அமர்நாத் ஆகியோர் சம்பந்தப்பட்ட காட்சிகள் மைதானங்களில்தான் இடம் பெற்றுள்ளது. ஒவ்வொரு வீரருக்காக தேர்வு செய்யப்பட்ட நடிகர்கள் பொருத்தமாக நடித்திருக்கிறார்கள். ஜிம்பாப்வே அணிக்கு எதிராக கபில்தேவ் முதன் முதலில் உலக சாதனை புரிந்த 175 ரன்கள் அடித்தது பிபிசி ஊழியர்கள் ஸ்டிரைக் செய்ததால் ஒளிப்பதிவு செய்யப்படவில்லை. அந்த அற்புத சாதனை நிகழ்வை நேரில் பார்த்தவர்கள் மட்டுமே நினைவு கூற முடியும். அந்த சாதனையைத் திரும்பப் பார்க்க முடியுமா என்ற ஏக்கத்தை இந்தப் படத்தில் நிறைவு செய்திருக்கிறார்கள். கிரிக்கெட் போட்டிகளை படமாக்கிய விதம், குறிப்பாக லைவ்வில் இடம் பெறும் எழுத்துக்கள் உட்பட பல விஷயங்களில் அதிக கவனம் செலுத்தியிருக்கிறார்கள். சிறு வயது சச்சின் டிவி முன்னால் மேட்ச் பார்ப்பது, அப்போது நடந்த முஸ்லிம், இந்து மக்கள் கலவரம் ஆகியவை படத்தில் இடைச்செருகலாய் வலுக்கட்டாயமாக நுழைக்கப்பட்டிருக்கிறது. இங்கிலாந்தில் நடைபெற்ற கிரிக்கெட் போட்டிகள், அதற்கு பின்னால் நடந்த சில சுவாரசிய நிகழ்வுகள் ஆகியவற்றுடன் மட்டும் படத்திற்கான திரைக்கதையை அமைத்திருக்கிறார்கள். வேறு எந்த சம்பவங்களுக்கும் முக்கியத்துவம் கொடுக்கவில்லை. கபில்தேவ் தலைமையில், 1983 உலகக் கோப்பை நிகழ்வுகளை '83' என்ற படமாகப் பார்த்த திருப்தியில், இரண்டாவது முறையாக கோப்பையை வென்ற '2011' ம் ஆண்டு நிகழ்வுகளை '11' என திரைப்படமாக்க மாட்டார்களா என்ற ஏக்கத்தை இந்தப் படம் ஏற்படுத்தியுள்ளது. 83 - மறக்க முடியாத சாதனை

GOAT movie review: This Thalapathy Vijay-Venkat Prabhu film is an action-packed, wholesome entertainer

Goat movie review: director venkat prabhu blends humor, tributes, and high-octane sequences, making it a refreshing experience for thalapathy vijay fans..

GOAT review: It's Ilayathalapathy versus Thalapathy . One is a good guy and the other is bad one. A young man vs an older one, bringing double the fun and double the action. Director Venkat Prabhu tries to show the audience why this film and Vijay is GOAT to his fans and the audience. GOAT takes off in Kenya in 2008 where we see a special anti-terrorist squad (SATS) team recover stolen uranium from a group of terrorists led by Omar and Rajiv Menon (Mohan). Gandhi (Vijay) and his team members-cum-friends Kalyan (Prabhu Deva), Sunil (Prashanth), Shaaam (Ajay) come back victorious to India but create havoc in the mission and receive flak from their chief Nazeer (Jayaram) for this. The group of men are thick as thieves and like to party and this is what gets Gandhi into trouble with his pregnant wife Anu (Sneha), who is quite suspicious of his activities.

Chaos unfurls

To keep Anu and his son Jeevan happy, Gandhi decides to take them to Thailand when he is assigned a mission. And this is where things go terribly wrong. Gandhi and his family are attacked by a gang and Anu ends up in hospital while Jeevan ends up kidnapped and killed. Cut to years later and we see things have changed - Gandhi is on a desk job and he is separated from Anu. But terror strikes again in the form of Sanjay. What does Gandhi do? Who is Sanjay? How does the SATS team save the day? Does Gandhi reunite with his family? Is it a happy-ever-after?

Director Venkat Prabhu must first be lauded for writing a story that travels the world and has family sentiment, action, humour and drama interlaced with twists and plenty of tributes. He has given Thalapathy Vijay a story that is quite different from the Tamil star’s last few outings and it’s refreshing. Vijay is seen in two roles and the two characters are radically quite different and that’s what makes it interesting. Venkat Prabhu has loaded the film with a lot of tributes starting from Captain Vijayanath, SPB and Ajith’s Mankatha hook step to his late cousin, Bhavatharini, and numerous Vijay films.

A Vijay fan tribute

The first half of GOAT is extremely engaging with the director setting up the stage for superb interval block that takes you by surprise. There is a lot of family drama and high-octane action in various missions around the world before the film hits the interval. Post interval, the film takes off with a face off between the Gandhi and Sanjay and the director tries to keep it fast-paced. Through the film, Venkat Prabhu shows he is a fanboy of Vijay, the Kollywood (references to Ghilli, Thirumalai, etc) and the climax of the film definitely proves this. This is not to say that there are no lags in the film but the superb performance of Vijay and the large ensemble cast makes you forgive this. The director capitalises totally on Vijay’s trademark charm, sentiment, action, dance and humour and this is sure to appeal to his fans and the audience.

Venkat Prabhu has always worked with his friends and family and his cousin, Yuvan Shankar Raja, has scored the music for GOAT like his previous films. Yuvan has done a good job with the BGM and the remixing of the an old Ilaiyarajaa song is foot tapping. But the Bhavathirini song (made with the use of AI), Chinna Chinna Kangal, is quite touching and soulful.

GOAT is a Venkat Prabhu treat for Thalapathy Vijay fans and the audience. This Vijay film is an action-packed, fun, wholesome entertainer!

இயக்குனர் சீனுராமசாமி இயக்கிய தென்மேற்குப் பருவக் காற்று திரைப்படத்தின் மூலம் கதாநாயகனாக அறிமுகமானார் விஜய் சேதுபதி. இந்த படம் பரவலாக நல்ல விமர்சனங்களைப் பெற்றது.

தென் மேற்குப் பருவக்காற்று திரைப்படத்துக்குப் பின்னர் இவர்கள் கூட்டணியில் இடம் பொருள் ஏவல், தர்மதுரை மற்றும் மாமனிதன் ஆகிய படங்கள் உருவாகியுள்ளன. இதில் இடம்பொருள் ஏவல் திரைப்படம் இன்னமும் ரிலீஸ் ஆகவில்லை.

இதற்கடுத்து அவர்கள் கூட்டணியில் உருவான தர்மதுரை திரைப்படம் மிகப்பெரிய வெற்றி பெற்றது. தர்ம துரைக்கு அடுத்து சீனு ராமசாமி - விஜய் சேதுபதி மாமனிதன் படத்தில் இணைந்துள்ளனர். மாமனிதன் படத்துக்காக இளையராஜா மற்றும் அவரது மகன் யுவன் ஷங்கர் ஆகிய இருவரும் இணைந்து இசையமைத்துள்ளனர்.

PATHU THALA MOVIE REVIEW

Pathu Thala is a film written and directed by Obeli N Krishna, and bankrolled by KE Gnanavel Raja and Jayantilal Gada under the banners Studio Green and Pen Studios respectively. The film has Silambarasan TR, Priya Bhavani Shankar, and Gautham Karthik in the lead roles while the supporting cast is filled with talents like Gautham Vasudev Menon, Anu Sithara, Kalaiyarasan, Teejay Arunasalam, Santhosh Prathap and Redin Kingsley. The music is composed by AR Rahman and the cinematography is handled by Farook J Basha.

AGR (Silambarasan TR) is the head of an extremely powerful gang that is as influential as deciding every single move in Tamil Nadu politics. Meanwhile Guna (Gautham Karthik) is an important member of a gang in Vizag, and gets involved in shooting a police officer. He seeks refuge in AGR's camp and it is revealed that Guna is actually an undercover cop. Does Guna and the police manage to nab AGR? Why is AGR involved in all the crimes? These questions are what Pathu Thala is all about.

Pathu Thala is the official Tamil adaptation of the critically acclaimed Kannada film Mufti. It seems like director Obeli N Krishna has made changes to the screenplay. While it has been done before in Vikram, it is indeed a brave decision by STR, director Krishna and the team of writers to not show Simbu's face till the interval block. And that makes the first half very gripping because every moment makes you think - will this be the introduction for Simbu. And the reveal is also shot in a fantastic way.

When you talk about the drawbacks of the film, it is again the same screenplay. What worked in the first half, starts lagging in the second half. After the film ends, we still don't have the answer as to why STR wasn't revealed for the entire first half.

Simbu carries the entire film on his shoulders despite missing in action for half the runtime. His screen presence makes the fans scream till their throats dry, and his performance is a testament as to why his fans are loyal to him. Gautham Karthik is brilliant as Guna, and comes up with a restrained performance that requires a lot of underplay. Priya Bhavani Shankar 's role could have been written better as it looks inconsequential to the narrative.

Among the supporting cast, Gauthan Vasudev Menon is seen in another antagonist role and it feels like he's being typecast as a villain. But his performance convinces us to a great extent. Redin Kingsley and Teejay also offer a lot of meat to the film. Redin's counters are also on point and crack you up instantly. For example, when he is attacked by someone and bleeds, he retorts saying "Irunga da, raththam ethitu vandhu ungala adikaren".

Technically, AR Rahman's music supports the film so much. It's almost like the spine of the film. He gives the film everything when it comes to music. Farook Basha's visuals complement the film so well and his choice of colours needs to be appreciated.

Overall, Pathu Thala is an engaging action film with great stunt choreography and performances. It sets a certain bar in the music and cinematography and never goes below it. It does justice to the original story without going overboard at any place. Had the pacing of the second half, and the screenplay in general been a little better, this would have been a must watch film. Nevertheless, it is a good watch for the weekend.
